THE African Cup of Nations quarter-finals kick-off as tournament favourites Senegal face a winless Benin.
The minnows have reached the final eight having drawn all four games so far – winning their Round of 16 clash in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw inside 90 minutes.
It’ll take a monumental effort to escape with a similar fate in this one, with Senegal having won nine of their last 10 overall and recording eight clean sheets in the process.
The gulf in class is evident on paper and if the Lions can find a way past this stubborn defence they’ll comfortably hold out a Benin frontline that has been kept scoreless twice already this tournament.
The market value here sits in the opening 45 minutes, with the favourites likely to control possession from the start. They’ll have more than enough opportunity to create clear cut chances and they’ve gone into halftime leading in four of their last six wins.
We don’t expect Benin to offer much in response so a single goal will be enough for the Lions of Teranga to cover the Asian Handicap in the first half.
With the half/full double sitting at around $2.04 on most books, we’ll take the “mistake” on offer for this line at +EV.
