THE Cowboys will look to make it back-to-back wins for the first time in 2019 when they head to ANZ Stadium to face the struggling Bulldogs.
Dean Pay’s side showed a real tenacity about them in that loss to the Rabbitohs last week and the improved effort is something they’ll want to build off as they prepare for a good stretch of fixtures.
That being said, the Cowboys also showed the kind of fight that’s been missing from their game in 2019 as they took care of business against the Warriors in New Zealand.
Josh McGuire led the way for Paul Green’s side and a repeat performance will go a long way to elevating the side to another two competition points.
One thing the Cows should do well in this one is defend their line; given that the Dogs own the worst attack in the competition that’s probably not all that surprising.
Canterbury currently average 0.33 points per set in attack – comfortably the worst return in the NRL so far this season. While the Cowboys defence has been lit up a couple times this year, they’ve also shown an ability to defend well in tight games and that’s very much what we’re anticipating today.
The Dogs are currently averaging 11.67 points per game in 2019 and their highest points tally (22 points) came in a game where Kieran Foran played his best football in leading the side around the park.
This one should be tight until the end and if the Cowboys can get on top through the middle they should control possession and field position in equal measure. Until the Dogs show they can put points on the board there’s no reason to believe they’ll clear a total that they’ve managed just once all season.
